If you're scanning a physical photo, it might be your scanner. Sometimes mine scanner blips and doesn't copy the photo exactly; most often I get hash or grid marks almost like the unit stuttered across the image instead of scanning it smoothly.

It's still an amazing shot. I love seascapes, in color or B&W.
